The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organization. It was established in 1992 by a group of five women with a goal of rescuing stray, injured and abused animals in the lakefield area. Registered as a charity in 1993 and incorporated in 1997, the Society has grown to become a well respected agency with over 130 members from all over the region. We are a "no-kill" shelter and work very hard at finding homes for even the most difficult to place animals. We do not believe that euthanasia is an acceptable method of population control but that spay and neuter is the only humane way to combat the problem. Laws is run strictly on donations, memberships and adoption fees. We do not benefit from any outside government or private sector funding.

I have been involved with LAWS for over 8 years, with the last four and 1/2 years as an employee.
Laws is such a big part of my life. It is such a wonderful organization that truly care for the well-being of all the animals that come through our doorway. We care for them like they are our own pets.
It is a great feeling to be involved with such great people and animals. I love L.A.W.S - I always have and always will....
