Some of you may be familiar with Sam & Marley(formerly known as Shannon) as they had lived at the shelter since April 2004 and even though they seemed to like it there, they really needed a home. When I called the shelter to inquire about a pair of cats, Cheryl recommended these two immediately. Apparently they were adopted out a couple of times but eventually always came back to the shelter. At one home Sam was so terrified he hid under a bed for 5 days and didn’t come out! After spending a bit of time there and watching them, we knew we had to take them home. Marley settled in quickly but Sam disappeared just as fast. We were encouraged when after only a few hours he ventured out to say hello. Gradually each day he got a little more comfortable and a little bolder. Soon he too wanted his brushings & pets as much as Marley. We were so excited about how well they were doing, Sammy in particular, we took pictures and videos and subjected the staff at the shelter to weekly viewings for the first few weeks. Although we haven’t been back in a while, we continue to mark their progress and will certainly stop in for a visit soon. A true test of how much they are at home came recently when friends stopped in to visit bringing their little dog with them. Surprisingly Sam was the first to come out and play. Marley fiercely defended her territory and showed him who was the boss. There’s no doubt now that this is her home. Between the two of them, she certainly rules the roost. Since January 8 when they first came home with us, I’m happy to say they have thrived. They have a peaceful home with lots of room to run, lots of toys (they seem to love playing with straws and sponge balls best), they love to be brushed and have pets & tummy rubs. Both have gained some weight, Sammy in particular now is getting quite a solid tummy. Best of all, they have provided us with lots of love, fun, and company. It is wonderful to watch them play together and groom each other. They have made our family complete and we are enjoying every minute with them. Thank you to Cheryl and all the staff at the Lakefield Animal & Welfare Shelter for your kindness and help and for all the work that you do for the animals. Your dedication is truly admirable and appreciated. Marg & Jeff Clark
