20th Annual Golf Tournament Raises $26,000 for Animals at LAWS

On Sunday, September 20, the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society celebrated the 20th Annual LAWS Golf Tournament in beautiful late-summer weather. With a sold-out field and plenty of enthusiasm on and off the course, it was the perfect day to mark two decades of this much-loved LAWS tradition.
Golfers gathered at Katchiwano Golf Club here in Lakefield for friendly competition, on-course contests, great food, live music, tastings, and good fun. From the Peterborough Petes putting contest kicking off before the shotgun start, to auction bids sliding in under the wire, there was a wonderful energy all the way through.
Most importantly: thanks to the generosity of our participants and partners, $26,000 was raised for the animals here at LAWS.

This year’s tournament was a milestone worth acknowledging. Over the years, the tournament has brought together all manner of community supporters and animal lovers to keep our shelter running, and this year’s celebration was a true reflection of that community spirit. There were many familiar faces on the roster, and we were thrilled to welcome new ones to the fold.
It’s difficult to express the gratitude we all felt for the golfers, sponsors, prize donors, bidders, entertainers, vendors, and volunteers who helped make the day possible. Every contribution added something to the experience. Front and centre were the faces of animals who have been adopted from LAWS—Charlie and Badger each sponsored their own holes—as well as those who are still waiting for their forever homes.
A special thank you goes to Katchiwano Golf Club for hosting us, and to all our sponsors and event partners who brought their time, talents, products, and services to the day. CM Golf & Entertainment added some extra excitement with the air cannon, The Detention Club kept golfers entertained with live music, The Grape & Wedge introduced participants to a selection of Canadian cheeses paired with non-alcoholic beverages, Bobcaygeon Brewing Co. provided a beer tasting, Betty Baker sold raffle tickets and Pete Dalliday ran the evening as our emcee, and SKH Events & Catering Co. served up dinner to finish the day.

These contributions did more than make the tournament especially enjoyable. They gave our golfers the opportunity to discover local businesses and talents right there at Katchiwano, all while spending a day together in support of animals in our community. What we value most about the tournament is that it’s a genuine opportunity for connection while being part of something that matters to all of us.
Here’s to making another 20 years possible. We love what we do, and we can’t thank everyone enough for showing up for the animals at the golf tournament in 2026.
