Surrender a Pet
Giving up an animal is never easy — for the owner or for the pet.
If you need to surrender your pet to LAWS, this is what you should know:
- We take animals in by appointment only, as we have limited space, resources, and want to have medical staff on hand at their arrival.
- All animals brought to LAWS must be properly restrained on a leash or in a carrier.
- The decision to surrender your pet is a permanent one. Surrendering your animal means relinquishing all ownership rights to your animal and the ability to make further decisions for the animal.
If you need to surrender your pet, please call us at 705-652-0588 or email us at info@lakefieldanimalwelfare.org to book an appointment and to speak with our trained staff.
We prioritize admission based on need and emergency situations. If we are at capacity with animals, we will place you on a waitlist for the surrender that will allow us to contact you when kennel space becomes available.
There is a surrender fee of $75 per cat, $100 per dog, and $100 per litter regardless of species. This fee goes toward caring for your pet while they are with us. If you are facing difficulties and can not afford the full surrender fee, please speak with one of our staff who will help you work out a solution.
PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS PRIOR TO OR AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:
- Completed the Pet History Questionnaire (link found below)
- Your pet’s medical records
- At least one cup of your pet’s food
- To help reduce your pet’s stress, we ask that you bring items that are familiar to them such as favourite toys or a blanket
